The Memorial Chorten: 2 minutes’ stroll from Norkhil, the Memorial Chorten is one of the must visit religious landmarks in Bhutan. It was erected in 1974 in loving memory of the 3rd King of Bhutan, King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck after his passing in the year 1972.
Changangkha Lhakhang: 10 minutes’ walk from Norkhil, Changangkha Lhakhang is an old fortress built on a ridge above central Thimphu in the 12th century.
Kuenselphodrang: 10 minutes’ drive from Norkhil, Kuensel Phodrang alias Buddha Point is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue constructed in the mountains of Bhutan. The statue houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues made of bronze and gold.
The National Stadium: 5 minutes’ walk from Norkhil, the National Stadium occupies the site of the 1885 battle that helped establish the supremacy of Ugyen Wangchuck, the first King of Bhutan. The stadium is now used for all big national celebrations; and all national and international football matches.
Tashichho Dzong: 5 minutes’ drive from Norkhil, Tashichho Dzong means the fortress of “auspicious doctrine”. It serves as the office of the King and the central monastic body of the country.
